The detail

A 20,000 mm waterproof shell with 60 g of synthetic insulation quilted behind it, so one layer does the job of two down to roughly minus five.

Synthetic rather than down on purpose: it keeps insulating when damp, and a waterproof jacket is worn precisely when things are damp.

The trade-off

Less breathable than an uninsulated shell when you are working hard, and it does not pack down small. If you run hot, layer a separate mid layer under the 3L instead.
