The detail

A 2.5-layer shell that stuffs into its own chest pocket and disappears into a daypack. Rated to 10,000 mm with taped seams, so it is a real waterproof rather than a shower-resistant windbreaker.

The trade-off

The printed inner face of a 2.5-layer fabric is less durable and less breathable than a three-layer one, and it wets out sooner under sustained heavy rain. For a commute, travel and showers it is the more sensible jacket. For a day on an exposed ridge, it is not.
