Nomad 38L Travel Backpack
36 to 45 litres · checked only · 1.28 kg

A 28-litre travel backpack built for two-week carry-on trips. Clamshell opening, padded 16-inch laptop sleeve, 1.06 kg. 420D recycled ripstop with a DWR finish: water resistant, not waterproof, so add the Stormline Pack Cover for a full day of rain. Lighter than the Trek Pro, with less suspension under load.
The Nomad 28L is the pack we built first, and the one most people end up travelling with. It opens flat like a suitcase, so you pack it on a bed rather than posting things down a tube, and it closes to a profile that fits the sizers at every airline we have tried it against.
The back panel carries a padded laptop compartment that takes a 16-inch machine, reachable from the outside without opening the main compartment. Inside there is one large volume, a zipped mesh lid pocket, and two compression straps that stop a half-full bag turning into a bag of loose objects.
At 1.06 kg this is a light pack, and lightness costs suspension. The hipbelt is a webbing strap, not a load-bearing structure, which is the right call for twelve kilos through an airport and the wrong one for twenty kilos up a hill. If you are carrying weight for hours, the Trek Pro 32L is the better tool.
The 420D recycled ripstop has a DWR finish. That sheds a shower and a bit of spray; it is not a waterproof barrier and the zips are not sealed. For sustained rain, use the pack cover.
